Lakewood provides very easy access to most any location in Metro Denver. Only 20 minutes’ drive to Downtown Denver and 35 minutes’ drive to most other Metro cities it boasts some beautiful trails, open space and access to the mountains via I-70. Residents of Lakewood can take advantage of the Denver West shopping Mall and “mini Denver West Tech Center” that includes engineering and tech companies along the I-70 corridor. In addition, the views from Green Mountain are terrific and residents love the highly sought after neighborhoods such as 6th Avenue Estates, Solterra, and many more.
Colorado Christian University and Red Rocks Community College are located in Lakewood, along with Warren Tech (a highly respected trade school) and other trade schools. Some of the major employers are Saint Anthony’s Hospital, Panorama Orthopedic Group, FirstBank, HomeAdvisor, Federal Center and many more.
The City was incorporated in 1969 and most of the development and housing was built between 1960 and 2010. And, the closest area to be considered “a downtown Lakewood” would be Belmar Shopping District. This area has restaurants, shopping, an ice skating rink in the winter, a movie theater and housing which makes this one of the most popular areas in Jefferson County.
